Chinchilla

The Chinchilla, considered as a separate class within the Persian breed, carry the basic features of the Persian breed. However, due to the fact that they have not yet been officially approved by world-recognized cat societies, their structural characteristics vary according to the breeder. The body structure has a smaller and less chunky appearance than Persians. While some breeders recognizing the face shape based on the structure of the traditional Persian, others say that Chinchilla's nasal bones should be longer and their face should be more protruding. The Chinchillas produced by the growers who defend this idea now have more smooth and healthy facial expressions instead of the classical sad face of Persian. The eyes are emerald green, blue-green color and a dark black color, and the nose is a red color with black stripes in the middle. At the same time, the sole is also black.

Chinchilla Character Structure

Chinchilla are generally calm and docile cats. They have a soft, melodic voice. Chinchilla, who loves to show his love, likes to be interested, can be faithfully attached to his owner. Although Chinchilla have a delicate and fragile appearance, they are quite healthy and durable. When the opportunity is given, they get happy with activities such as climbing and catching mice like other cats. Often they prefer to live at home instead of going out, so they can be easily fed in all kinds of houses and apartment buildings. Chinchillas are usually preferred by middle-aged people who have enough time to care and desire a loving relationship.

Chinchilla Colors

They can be silver, blue silver, chocolate silver, lilac silver, gold, blue gold, chocolate gold, lilac gold. Chinchilla's silvery appearance fur consists of black or silver-colored glows between the white hairs. Those with dark silver patterns are called shaded silver, those with golden color are called shaded gold (very rare). The babies are born almost black, with dark shaded hair, and over time this color lightens and become pure white.

Chinchilla Feather Care

Chinchillas should be brushed for at least 15 minutes per day. Otherwise the hair is easily knotted. Extra care must be given to the underarm, belly area and underneath the tail which is more likely to be knotted during brushing. If brushing is neglected for as short as a few days, the feather can get knotted to the extend that the cat does not endure brushing. The fur should be shaved completely when it is not possible to untie it with a comb. Especially in the spring months when they change their winter feathers, they tend to shed a lot. This can be problematic for people who are overly sensitive or have an allergy problem. Although daily brushing removes some of dead hairs, it is a fact that there would always be some hairs on clothes and furniture.

Chinchilla Origin

The name of Chinchilla cat comes from Chinchilla, a South American origin rodent, because of the similarity of their fur. The oldest known Chinchilla cat, Silver Lambkin, in 1888, attracted attention in London at the Cyristal Palace cat show, winning many of the great prizes and supported the formation of this stunning breed. According to some, they are regarded as a color variation in Persian breed. However, it must be admitted that there is significant differences between them in terms of body structure and face shape. Chinchilla is also confused with British-born Sterling cat. The reason for the similarity is the mating of Chinchilla cat for the formation of Sterling. Sterling cats are recognized as a separate breed category by the International Cat Association (TICA) and ICE (International Cat Exhibitions Association).
