Bearded Collie Origin

Bearded Collie (bearded scottish dog) (also known as 'Beardie' since thick hairs underneath their jaws) comes from mating of local Scottish dogs and a group of six Polish shepherd dogs brought to Scotland, probably in 1514. As a result of these matings, too many offspring came to earth, and this lineage was the shepherds of sheep and accompanied the cattle in the Scottish plains. They were sent to England and America in the 20th century. A woman named Miss G. Olive Willison ordered a Shetland shepherd dog, but was mistakenly given a Bearded Collie called Jeannie. Ms. Willison was fascinated by the beard of this dog and begun to feed Jeannie with another Beardie. These two dogs started this line’s pedigree. Bearded Collies increased their reputation with a Beardie called 'Potterdale Classic at Moonhill', which was ranked at the top of the show in Crufts, the world's biggest dog show in 1989. Famous Bearded Colliers include Cole, Disney star 'Shaggy Dog' and Brady Bunch dog 'Tiger'.
